Tim Bengel was born in Stuttgart in 1991 and studied art history and philosophy at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. As a teenager, he went on strike against the school system with the motto "Do things differently!" and won the student art prize at the age of 18. This was the beginning of his artistic path. 

He became internationally known through videos of his works on social media. Over 500 million people saw his works there, created through the innovative and aesthetically pleasing gold and sand collage technique. Bengel has been working as a professional artist since 2017 and opened his first solo exhibition in New York in the same year. 

In 2019, Tim Bengel presented "Flower-Skull-Cemetry" on the grounds of the Factory in Berlin Mitte. Staying true to his white and gold aesthetic, the installation is composed of 100 gold-engraved tombstones, all with a humorous yet critical look at one's own life journey. 

"Who wants to live forever?" is Bengel's first sculptural work, which he presented in Berlin and Miami in 2021: an avocado bagel cast from approximately 7000 grams of solid gold. With the work, he wants to "freeze the zeitgeist" and thus engage with Millennial culture, a green double standard as well as the social media hype. 

Through his work on the bagel sculpture, Tim Bengel took a closer look at the topic of "superfoods" and came to the conclusion that the biggest superfood, cabbage, grows right near us. Together with other artists, he is therefore dedicating his own exhibition at the Stadtpalais in Stuttgart to this underestimated superfood.
