What do Calvin Klein, the Ramones and the illustrated books from teNeues have in common? Their success story began in New York City. When Hendrik teNeues moved to the USA in the early 1980s, the company's product range consisted of art prints, greeting cards and, since 1958, calendars. Under the grandson of company founder Dr. Manfred teNeues, the teNeues Publishing Company was founded in the American metropolis, adding stationery and merchandising to the product range. In 1984, the portfolio was finally expanded to include illustrated books, and the first teNeues illustrated book was launched on the market exactly 40 years ago.

This decision marked the breakthrough for teNeues Verlag.  In 2000, the first extensive teNeues book program was launched in the photography, travel, lifestyle and architecture sectors. Shortly afterwards, the company also began producing and publishing successful corporate publishing works.

Successful present and future

Over the years, teNeues Verlag has enjoyed great success with photography titles, e.g. by Magnum legend Elliott Erwitt, with the "Cool Cities" travel series and with "Living in Style", a series of books on design topics. The publisher's biggest bestsellers are Jimmy Nelson's "Before They Pass Away", which has sold over 150,000 copies, and "The Watch Book Rolex", which is currently in its 21st edition, with well over 100,000 copies in total.

These titles stand for the successful present and future of teNeues. Since then, the publishing house has been regarded as THE illustrated book specialist with special demands on the high quality of illustrated books and coffee table art books and is aimed at discerning individualists who are enthusiastic about creative image creation and seek the exclusive in the everyday. Our books are luxurious and aesthetic sources of inspiration that enhance any environment. We firmly believe that photographic art and bookmaking art belong together.

Celebrate with teNeues

On the occasion of our 40th anniversary, we are optimistically looking ahead to our fifth decade, but we also want to celebrate our bestsellers from the past and offer them as affordable softcover editions. Currently, a new generation of book enthusiasts is growing up, fueled by social media and online retail, and retailers are looking for content for this generation. With our new label tN4t, we offer high-quality content that fits on every bookshelf in terms of price and format.

Discover the classics that will be launched this year as tN4t editions - from 2025, in addition to the classics, we are planning lots of exciting content that perfectly suits the young target group.
