The Space Gallery St. Barth in New York City presents the works of French photographer Christophe Jacrot in the current exhibition “Lost in Bad Weather” - a touching world of images that offers an unusual view of “bad weather” with perfection and poetry.

“I love the drama of bad weather, its soul and its melancholy.” - Christophe Jacrot

For Jacrot, bad weather is not an inconvenience, but an artistic opportunity. Early in his career, he began to develop the damp, gloomy atmosphere as a signature for his art. “Bad weather is also a blessing,” he says himself, ”no water means no life!” He is deeply fascinated by the extreme weather and the uncomfortable scenery for many and is driven to visit places such as Iceland or Scotland several times. The exhibition impressively shows that rain, snow and thick fog create images that play with light and shadow, create tension and yet always reveal a spark of life - be it a splash of color, fleeting silhouettes or birds in flight.

The exhibition follows on from his first monograph “Lost in the Beauty of Bad Weather”, in which Jacrot passionately showcases his inimitable passion for rain, snow and stormy nature. The photo book captures melancholy and beauty, makes you feel the storm almost physically and connects each image with a story and mood that is unique in its drama.

Magnetic places and the play of light and shadow

Jacrot's travels often take him to photogenic, iconic locations that unfold their charm precisely because of the weather. The Swiss Hotel Belvédère at 2200 meters above sea level or the streets of Paris under a thick veil of rain are just as much a part of this as the apocalyptic New York during the power outage after Hurricane Sandy. His unique series of New York, known as “NYC In Black”, can also be seen in the exhibition and are often compared to Edward Hopper's paintings, whose play of light and shadow evoke similar emotions.

The drama and authenticity of “Bad Weathers”

Jacrot describes his art as a kind of chance interplay between place and moment that cannot be forced. He uses it to capture what most people try to avoid, revealing that melancholy and drama have their own authentic beauty. “I find the dramatic power of bad weather captivating. It has a beauty that is severe but real,” Jacrot explains, immersing us in a world where nature plays the leading role and time seems to stand still in rain and fog.

For collectors and lovers of urban melancholy

The matching illustrated book “Lost in the Beauty of Bad Weather” is an indispensable collector's item for all those who are enthusiastic about extreme weather conditions and the unnoticed aspects of nature.
