Elliott Erwitt was born in Paris in 1928. A life full of colour lay ahead of him, but he became world-famous for his iconic black and white photographs. After emigrating with his family from fascist Italy to the USA in 1939, he worked in a photo lab and dedicated himself to his passion from then on.

After studying photography in Los Angeles and New York, he travelled to France and Italy with his Rolleiflex camera in 1949 and gained intensive experience for his later career. From 1953, he worked for the Magnum Agency, which he also headed as president for a time. Nevertheless, he enjoyed simply travelling with his Leica and photographing whatever came in front of his lens.

In his photos, he played with the absurd moments of life, one of his favourite subjects being dogs. But numerous celebrities, including former US President John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, are also among his most famous subjects. Elliott Erwitt had a tender eye for the beauty of the little things in life. His pictures are often full of humour, but never silly. Lightness, vibrancy and sharpness - Erwitt's work is a source of inspiration for many photographers.

Together with Elliott Erwitt, teNeues Verlag has been able to realise several books in recent years. These include "Elliott Erwitt's Scotland", "Elliott Erwitt's Dogs", "Elliott Erwitt's Paris", "Cuba" and "Elliott Erwitt's Personal Best". Work has just been completed on "Elliott Erwitt's New York - Revised Edition", the expanded new edition of the illustrated book published in 2008, which will appear in stores in the first week of January 2024.
