A special tribute to Kofi Annan, the recently deceased former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Honorary President of the Prix Pictet
As it enters its second decade, the Prix Pictet continues to move and excite, inform and inspire with the eighth cycle, Hope, to be unveiled in autumn 2019.
For ten years, the Prix Pictet has called on photographic artists to explore all facets of sustainability. In the prize's first decade, some 4?200 photographers submitted more than 28?000 images to the jury, and 92 Prix Pictet exhibitions were held in 40 cities around the world. Each of the seven prize cycles has produced expressive photographs that speak to the daunting environmental, social and cultural challenges of our time.
Featuring the work of all previous winners - Benoit Aquin, Nadav Kander, Mitch Epstein, Luc Delahaye, Michael Schmidt, Valérie Belin and Richard Mosse - and numerous finalists, ten celebrates the outstanding photography that the Prix Pictet has been able to present over the past decade.
This poignant photographic journey reveals our complex relationship with the environment through its carefully curated selection of captivating images. The photographs in this volume, some of which have never before been published or exhibited by the Prix Pictet, are arranged according to twelve themes. In a spectrum ranging from photojournalism to conceptual art, these photographs bring to our attention, in alarming diversity, some of the most pressing issues facing our modern society.
