The teNeues brand has been synonymous with pictorial calendars for more than five decades. We celebrated our 50th jubilee last year. Also we received the accolade of “Brand of the Century” in 2007. This market leadership is no accident. Internationally our products are well known for the best possible quality, innovation and outstanding design and this does not only apply to our traditional product, the calendar, or our stationery. teNeues counts among the world's leading book publishers in the areas of illustrated books on photography, design, lifestyle and travel. The quality of teNeues' illustrated books is reflected by international prizes such as the Prix de Villegiature, Europe's best hotel book and the Deutscher Fotobuchpreis 2008.
General appreciation of our work by jurors, booksellers, authors, licensing partners and, last but not least, our customers does bring with it the burden of responsibility but also provides plenty of incentives and motivation for our staff in their commitment to teNeues products and to our brand.
teNeues is proud to be listed since 2007 as "Brand of the century" in the area of picture calendars
teNeues Publishing Group. A Retrospective
The publisher's started off as an offset print shop called Dr. te Neues & Co., founded by Dr. Heinz teNeues in Krefeld, Germany, in 1931. The print shop was destroyed during the Second World War and subsequently reopened in Kempen. Together with his oldest son, Dr. Manfred teNeues, Heinz teNeues developed a first publishing programme consisting of art prints and prints for schools in 1950. 1958 saw the first teNeues art calender. By the end of the sixties greeting cards were included in its range of products and its successful calendar programme had helped establish the publisher's as a market leader in German speaking economies.
The two business streams – calendars and greeting cards – were subsequently included in the newly established teNeues Verlag GmbH & Co. KG in 1977, a move which facilitated the expansion of the publishing group.
Hendrik teNeues, Manfred teNeues' eldest son, established the teNeues Publishing Company in New York in 1982 – the group's first foreign adventure which was followed by further subsidiaries and representative offices in London, Paris, Madrid and Milan. Apart from calendars the group produced and marketed other art products such as cards, posters and blankbooks as well as art books from other European publishers in the USA.
The year 1995 witnessed the creation of teNeues' first book label which focused on photography. Sebastian teNeues, Manfed teNeues' youngest son, entered the business in the same year. Dr. Manfred teNeues took on an advisory role to the publishing group in 1999 which is still in family hands in the form of Hendrik and Sebastian teNeues.

The Publishing Group Today
From its origins as a family-run, medium-sized business, teNeues has grown into an internationally renowned publishing group with sales markets throughout the world as well as a pool of international artists, photographers, authors and licensing partners.
Hendrik teNeues and his brother Sebastian are publishers and managing partners of the publishing group which boasts some 160 staff worldwide.
A special characteristic of the teNeues publishing group is its excellent marketing programme – this is applicable to both the home front and the most important international markets including teNeues Publishing New York with its 15 staff. More than 70 countries are serviced by the group's own subsidiaries, representative offices, direct marketing and via partners. Since 2006 teNeues stores in Munich, Hamburg and Düsseldorf have been opened.
teNeues' strong international presence makes the brand attractive for authors, artists' estates and licensers alike. teNeues alone has more than 200 licensing partners as well as numerous contracts with stock photo agencies and copyright collection societies. Special art licenses have been developed together with leading international museums and artists' estates. The range of calendars with more than 500 titles counts among the most extensive.
With approximately 60 new publications every year the teNeues book programme with its focus on design, photography, lifestyle, travel, architecture, fashion and popular culture ranks among the leading publishers in this field.
