Werner Pawlok, born in Stuttgart in 1953, established Southern Germany’s first photo gallery in 1980. At the end of the 1980s he set up a studio in New York for two years, before he returned to Stuttgart to work on group exhibitions with pieces by Warhol, Richter, Mapplethorpe, and Polke.
His 50 x 60 cm polaroids count among his most famous works, as do his celebrity and fashion photographs of such personalities as John Malkovich, Dennis Hopper and Juliette Binoche.
As a self-taught photographer, Werner Pawlok developed his very own style over the decades that is beyond mainstream and has lead to recognition by museums, galleries and collectors throughout the world. His continuing search for new visual ideas and ways of expression is reflected in his imagery.
